Seems to me that there isn't enough improved performance characteristics compared to a Lifeline to merit a complete reorganization of the battery compartment. The difference in price is about $150 for the lot. Then you have to redo the cables and probably have to buy some new ones for the proper length and fitment.

You know you can buy a good Decca battery (maybe not quite as good as a Lifeline but less expensive too) that fits easily where the Lifelines were.
We haven't even considered the time and labor involved in making the switch.

I've looked at my battery compartment and the difficulty in getting those odd sized batteries to fit and I just think that would be more trouble than worthwhile.

Chuck you will not be able to fit these batteries into the Marathon . The house batteries in the Marathon are angle mounted I had an XL2 before. You need two man and a boy to take them out I tried once but not again.

RE: Lifeline alternative: Odyssey PC1800-FT
There's a guy over on Prevost Owners Group who just bought a set of GPL-4D's from Tom at Trans Specialists (Truk4u on Prevost Community) for $4500. With shipping the total cost came in at just less than $5000. At $4500 the cost per battery comes to $562 which is $138 more per battery than the PC1800-FT or a savings of $1100 for a set of eight Odyssey's. It appears the price of Lifelines has gone up. That or Tom's profit margin has ballooned.

The last time I bought Lifeline's I bought them from Tom. It was in January of 2012 and I paid $448 per GPL-4D battery. That's a 25% increase over the past 5 years. Looking around the web I see that the going retail price of a GPL-4D is in the mid $500's. There was once upon a time when Tom offered Prevost owners a good deal on Lifelines. Looks like those days are no more.

David, I bought new batteries for my LXi in early 2015 just before I sold it. I bought them from San Diego battery world and they shipped to Redlands who installed them for me. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe I paid $495 each for them with free delivery. The link below shows that they will still sell you a single GPL-4DL for $495. I don't know if they would discount the price from that if you buy 6 or 8. I don't think they will ship across the country for free tho. Probably free if you are within their regular local delivery routes. Also, they want your cores or it's another $35 added to the battery price.

RE: Lifeline alternative: Odyssey PC1800-FT
Thanks for the website Chuck, that's a good price. I requested a quote.

Hish, I bought new tires in Coburg but not new batteries. I'm running Power-Tec 8A4D's (a Deka clone manufactured by East Penn) installed by Bruce Coach before I bought the bus.

I'm really not interested in a battery unless they publish an "internal resistance" number. The internal resistance is what dictates the charging rate, the heat generated within the battery, and ultimately the battery's life span. For instance, I've searched high and low but I can't find an internal resistance spec for the Deka Intimidator 8A4D. The Vantare puts extra stress on the AGM battery bank because it doesn't have a separate generator start battery, so after the AGM bank is depleted I still need enough reserve to start the generator. (I know, the simple solution is to add a genny battery and charger)! Smile

Check with Bob Giffen his batteries in his 2000 LX are still factory batteries original never been replaced. He use battery maintainer on each battery.

Desulfater charger is what Bob uses to keep his batteries charged, he also have a desulfater charger on each of the batteries thus eliminating the problem with multi batteries in the system.

RE: Lifeline alternative: Odyssey PC1800-FT
OK I am going to throw a fly in the ointment. What about Lithium? Relion batteries? The price is higher but you need to purchase far less to obtain the same amp hours. They will take bigger current draws and have double the charge cycles before permanent depletion. Seem to be well used in the marine sector? Thoughts Sparky? Oh also supposed to take less time to recharge and can be installed anywhere. Feedback I see online is more and more people are using Lithium with success. Technomadia for example. They don't use Relion but never the less it seems a plausible solution.
