I've looked at my battery compartment and the difficulty in getting those odd sized batteries to fit and I just think that would be more trouble than worthwhile.

Chuck you will not be able to fit these batteries into the Marathon . The house batteries in the Marathon are angle mounted I had an XL2 before. You need two man and a boy to take them out I tried once but not again.
