Here's a simple idea that might be useful to someone. Use a yoga mat and cut in pieces to fit your steps and landing. The anti-slip texture helps keep the mat from moving, provides a little cushion when stepping on it and they're easy to remove and clean. And you can get them in colors to match your decor

I like the idea Chuck I have taken a fall a couple of times when the mat sliped. I am also sure this mat is much cheaper than the mats sold by Marathon Coach.
