I just purchased a 1981 Le Mirage which was converted in 2001 to a motor home... and it has no generator. So, what should I look at, what’s it gonna cost, and what’s entailed in the installation? Should I try doing it myself as I cannot afford to take it to a RV shop and have them do the install....
Congrats on the new bus Mike. This question might be better posted on the busnuts forum. These guys have a lot of experience with the various generators on the market. I'd probably start with assessing the loads that the genny would see, then look at the battery bank ampere hours required, then look at the capabilities of your inverter chargers. All of these components need to be balanced to the generator output. Most of today's converters use 17.5 or 20kw Martin's or Power Techs, but you may find that you can get away with less, perhaps one of the variable speed Honda's on the market.
